1.Put the OSB on the frame, ready to do the Monotonic test. Talk to Dr.Yu,we will do this first monotonic test on Wednesday.
2.Put clips on the 8'by 9' shear wall.
Monday, October 31
Friday, October 28
Fourth Week
1.Put the ledger on the frame, test the stiffness.
2.Duo to some visitors come to the lab, I didn't have enough time to do monotonic test. Will put the OSB on and do monotonic test on Monday.

1.Have finished the first test, get the data, will work on it.
2.Put steel clip channel through the 8X9 shear wall frame.

Wednesday, October 26
Fourth Week
1.Have moved the horizontal beam to 9'.
2.Make preparations for tomorrow test, which include change to a bigger base, put a T shape beam on the top of the shear wall.(Dr.Yu come to Lab at 3:30 tomorrow,we will test then.)
3.Build four 8'by9' shear wall frames with the help of Dr.Yu student.
So the bolt spacing maybe not exactly 16'',depend on the hole position on the base.

Count the cycle manually.
Will video the test procedure

Lack of studs...haven't received the reorder materials yet.
1.We got #14 screws,so I put them on the holddowns.
2.Cut boards for the 8' by 9' shear wall.
2.See Dr.Yu doing the shear wall test.Dr.Yu has done 2 shear wall testing today, tomorrow they will do another 2 shear walls. After they finish,I think it is our turn.

Third week
1.Have built another 2 shear walls.Almost finish building all the 4'by8'shear wall.
2.Join Dr.Yu group meeting.Since Dr.Yu has 4 shear wall test, the student is starting to build it.I asked Dr.Yu when they finished, then we could do our test.He said maybe Next Friday.
3.Short of studs.We have ordered the studs,but I haven't received it yet.
Need studs
Seam location: 7feet up

Third week
1.Have finished 2 shear walls.
2.With Cheng'student help,I built a 8'by 9 ' frame, but we have not received the additional studs which we already ask for.
3.Dr.Yu have planed to do 4'by8'shear wall recently. It have 4 specimen.
So we will begin testing after they finish.Because our wall is 4'by9',which means I have to change the test rig to fit.So they go first!

Thursday, October 13
Second week
1.Build one specimen, but for the strap part, wait for the result.
2.Cut the OSB and gypsum board ,12''by16'',totally 16 pieces. Will come to post office to mail tomorrow.

Second week
Put another 2 ledgers on the frame.
I was supposed to let Cheng's student show me how to cut board, but found that student gone earlier today.
Need #14 self-drilling screws for holddowns and stud connection, I have emailed the Simpson guy Steve to deliver. There are #14 screws in Cheng's Lab,so I use some temporarily.

Second week
1.Put the 3 CRC on the frame,it is a little bit time consuming, I have to drive a hole on the web of the stud,CRC and the clip angel first, then put them together with a screw.
2. Put a ledger on the frame.
3.Join Dr.Yu group meeting.
This is how the ledger connect the frame.
The cold rolled channels go through the studs

10/8/2011 Saturday (First week)
1.I have finished all the back to back studs making.
The following is the problem studs which we can't use.
Short stud: 600S162-54(50ksi) Qty 1
Punch-out not in the middle:600S162-54(50ksi) Qty 1
600S162-54(33ksi) Qty 13
What we need:
600S162-54(50ksi) Qty 21 9'
600S162-33(33ksi) Qty 3 9'
1-1/2"*54-mil strap
8'long Qty 5
9'long Qty 9
These back to back studs are for 8'by 9' shear wall.
The punch-out is not usually at the exact middle of the web,so this may cause the difficulties to put the CRC in the right place.
One stud is short.
These back to back studs are for 4'by 9' shear walls.
The problem studs,we can't use.
We need more strap.

10/7/2011 Friday (First week)
Here is the procedure, I build the shear wall.
1. Back to back stud.
2.Put the track on, build the frame,15 specimen totally. This step,I can't finish by myself. If Cheng's student is available,we do this step,if not,I can do the first or the third step.
3.Put the cold rolled channel and ledger.
4.Put the board
This clip angle is just 6 inches which I have to cut a little bit to fit the stud.
This is all the stuff. Today, the simpson guy Steve has delivered the holddowns and the screw drive.
These are all the screws.
This stud is too short.
These are what I made the first week
Clip angles are waiting for cut.
This is 600S162-54mile(33kis),it is not right,we want 600S162-33mil(33ksi).
Enough hold downs
This is to connect the drywall and stud.
For the OSB and stud.
The simpson guy also bring the flat head # 10 screw. I use this to connect the track and stud. The length of the Hex head is a little higher than the flat head.
This is #8 for the clip angle and stud.
