So the bolt spacing maybe not exactly 16'',depend on the hole position on the base.

Monday, October 24

Fourth Week

1.The student and the teacher in the lab are not available today. They didn't show up.(Because the horizontal beam is a big one, we need do this under the lab teacher' instruction.)

3.Dr.Yu have planed to do 4'by8'shear wall recently. It have 4 specimen.
So we will begin testing after they finish.Because our wall is 4'by9',which means I have to change the test rig to fit.So they go first!

Friday, October 14

Second week

1.Put 3 pairs of holddowns on the studs(inside shear wall)

Second week

Put another 2 ledgers on the frame.
I was supposed to let Cheng's student show me how to cut board, but found that student gone earlier today.
Need #14 self-drilling screws for holddowns and stud connection, I have emailed the Simpson guy Steve to deliver. There are  #14 screws in Cheng's Lab,so I use some temporarily.

First specimen, will be built tomorrow.

Tuesday, October 11

Second week

1.Put the 3 CRC on the frame,it is a little bit time consuming, I have to drive a hole on the web of the stud,CRC and the clip angel first, then put them together with a screw.

2. Put a ledger on the frame.

3.Join Dr.Yu group meeting.

This is how the ledger connect the  frame.

The cold rolled channels go through the studs

Second week

1.Put cold rolled channels on the 3 frames.
2.Build 6 stud to track frames with the help of Cheng's undergraduate student in the Lab.
3.Put a ledger on the frame.

Saturday, October 8

10/8/2011 Saturday (First week)

1.I have finished all the back to back studs making.

The following is the problem studs which we can't use.
Short stud: 600S162-54(50ksi) Qty 1
Punch-out not in the middle:600S162-54(50ksi) Qty 1
600S162-54(33ksi) Qty 13

What we need:
600S162-54(50ksi) Qty 21  9'
600S162-33(33ksi) Qty 3   9'
1-1/2"*54-mil strap
8'long Qty 5
9'long Qty 9

These back to back studs are for 8'by 9' shear wall.
The punch-out is not usually at the exact middle of the web,so this may cause the difficulties to put the CRC in the right place.

One stud is short.

These back to back studs are for 4'by 9' shear walls.
 The problem studs,we can't use.
We need more strap.

Friday, October 7

10/7/2011 Friday (First week)

Here is the procedure, I build the shear wall.
1. Back to back stud.
2.Put the track on, build the frame,15 specimen totally. This step,I can't finish by myself. If Cheng's student is available,we do this step,if not,I can do the first or the third step.
3.Put the cold rolled channel and ledger.
4.Put the board

This clip angle is just 6 inches which I have to cut a little bit to fit the stud.

This is all the stuff. Today, the simpson guy Steve has delivered the holddowns and the screw drive.

These are all the screws.

This stud is too short.

These are what I made the first week
Clip angles  are waiting for cut.

This is 600S162-54mile(33kis),it is not right,we want 600S162-33mil(33ksi).

 Enough hold downs

This is to connect the drywall and stud.

For the OSB and stud.

The simpson guy also bring the flat head # 10 screw. I use this to connect the track and stud. The length of the Hex head is a little higher than the flat head.

This is #8 for the clip angle and stud.
